Air Liquide completes the construction of its new diborane plant in Sejong, South Korea

Seoul, South Korea,

Air Liquide held an opening ceremony on May 22, 2024, to inaugurate a new diborane plant at its Advanced Materials Center in Sejong, South Korea. This new plant will provide customers with safe and high quality diborane that is produced with a state-of-the-art manufacturing process. Diborane is an essential molecule for the manufacturing of semiconductor devices.

The opening ceremony, hosted by Armelle Levieux, Vice President of Innovation, Electronics, H2 Energy of the Air Liquide Group, was attended by representatives of Sejong city, Korean Gas Safety association and key customers.

With this facility, Air Liquide continues to reinforce the Korean semiconductor ecosystem and provides a safe and reliable source of diborane allowing customers to continue accelerating innovation. The analytical and digital technologies embedded in the plant allows it to meet the most stringent quality requirements of the industry.

The new facility represents the latest step in Air Liquide’s strategy to localize the production of advanced materials in Korea. It is part of the decision announced in July 2023 to invest 200 million dollars in the construction of two large Advanced Materials production sites in South Korea and Taiwan. With this project, Air Liquide is further strengthening its footprint in Korea and its partnership with strategic customers.

Laurent Langellier, CEO of Air Liquide Advanced Materials, said:

Advanced semiconductor technology development is a cornerstone for the growth of disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. As a global leader in the production of Advanced Materials for the semiconductor industry, we are determined to continuously develop and produce new and innovative molecules to achieve the highest levels of performance for the next generation of advanced devices.
